This summer is the perfect time for your community to organize an event! If you’re looking for inspiration, Green Newton has got you covered.

In April, Green Newton helped organize Newton's Annual Earth Day Celebration. “We’re always trying to think of the ways to engage people,” Green Newton President Marcia Cooper, told MassEnergize. At this year’s celebration, Marcia noticed that activities like face painting, EV test drives, and even a petting zoo motivate community members of all ages to attend and learn about actions for sustainability that they can take at home and on the road. One of the highlights was the “Tic Tac Go Sustainable kiosk,” a climate action-themed game of Tic Tac Toe built by Newton artist Andrew Breithaupt.

Marcia’s advice for hosting events is to “never get discouraged” and look towards your community for ways they can help. Despite the rainy weather, Newton’s Earth Day Celebration was a great success and the perfect event to get inspiration from.

Marcia and the Green Newton team look forward to summer events such as Newton Highlands Village Day and local farmers markets where they can continue educating and supporting their Newton neighbors. To learn more about Green Newton, visit their website here.
